A: The Litter Trapping Mat is very easy to clean. Simply empty the litter from the litter pad and then rinse it with water.
Q: Why do I need a litter-trapping mat?
A: Cats often carry litter on their paws when using the box. A litter mat with a honeycomb design, a waterproof base, and an anti-slip bottom helps catch stray litter, keeping your home cleaner and making cleanup easier.
Q: Why do I need to replace the litter mat every 3 months?
A: Over time, the mat’s special coating wears down from daily use, which can cause waste to stick more easily. We recommend replacing it every three months—or more often, depending on your cat’s habits and how tidy you like things.
Q: How often should I replace the waste drawer liner?
A: For one cat, change the waste drawer liner every 7 to 10 days. In multi-cat homes, you may need to replace it more often. Don't want to keep track? Our accessory subscription makes it easy.
Q: Do I have to use Luma's waste drawer liners?
A: No. You can use any liners that fit the drawer, but liners with the wrong size or shape may trigger false “full bin” alerts. For the most accurate readings and easiest cleanup, we recommend using Luma drawer liners.
Q: How will my cat adjust to the automatic litter box?
A: Most cats are naturally curious. For first-time users, place Luma next to your cat's current litter box and use treats or toys to encourage exploration. Use their usual litter and add a small amount of used litter for familiarity. For the first few days, turn off automatic cleaning and set the fan to low to create a calm, comfortable environment.
Q: How does Luma keep my cat safe?
A: Luma only starts cleaning once its camera, infrared, and weight sensors confirm your cat has left the litter box. If a cat approaches while it's rotating, Luma immediately pauses to keep them safe.
Q: Is Luma easy to clean and maintain?
A: Yes, we designed Luma to be easy to clean and maintain. You can remove the litter compartment for cleaning in just 2 steps, and all internal parts can be quickly removed for a thorough wash. For maintenance, we recommend replacing both the carbon deodorizer and the litter mat about every 3 months for single-cat homes (or as needed).
