Algae can grow anywhere there is light and water.

  1. Using distilled water in your water fountain will help reduce the number of algae that develop due to the increased purity of the water. Distilled water removes sediments and minerals, which helps minimize mineral buildup and algae growth.
  2. To keep your pet’s drinking water fresh for as long as possible, place the fountain in a well-aired room, away from direct sunlight. When the water level gets low, don’t just top it up, but rinse and refill the fountain instead.
  3. Mild dish detergent and warm water will most likely remove any algae.
