Can Luma be placed on carpet?

No, Luma must be placed on a hard, level surface with at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space around it to ensure the accuracy ofits weight sensor in detecting your pet's weight. Placing it on a carpet may cause inaccurate weight readings and reduce the effectiveness of its triple-safety check system.

How will my cat adjust to the automatic litter box?

Most cats are naturally curious. For first-time users, place Luma next to your cat's current litter box and use treats or toys to encourage exploration. Use their usual litter and add a small amount of used litter for familiarity. For the first few days, turn off automatic cleaning and set the fan to low to create a calm, comfortable environment. Learn more.

How does Luma keep my cat safe?

Luma only starts cleaning once its camera, infrared, and weight sensors confirm your cat has left the litter box. If a cat approaches while it's rotating, Luma immediately pauses to keep them safe.

Is Luma easy to clean and maintain?

Yes, we designed Luma to be easy to clean and maintain. You can remove the litter compartment for cleaning in just 2 steps, and all internal parts can be quickly removed for a thorough wash. For maintenance, we recommend replacing both the carbon deodorizer and the litter mat about every 3 months for single-cat homes (or as needed).

Do I need a Video Cloud AI subscription to use Luma?

No, you can start using the Luma Smart Litter Box right away without a subscription. Without a subscription, you'll have access to a complete log of your cat's litter box visits, the exact time and duration of each visit, and immediate alerts for important changes, such as a full 24 hours without activity.
If you do decide to add Video Cloud AI, you'll get extra features for even more proactive care:
- See recordings and photos of every cat’s visit, plus daily AI-generated highlight reels.
- Get advanced waste analysis and smart alerts for important changes, like loose poop.
- View your cat’s daily toilet activity in their dashboard and gain deeper insights into their behavior.

Does Luma have cat age and weight limits?
Is there a limit to how many cats can use it?

Luma is designed for multi-cat homes, can recognize up to 10 cats, and works best for cats between 2.2 and 22 lbs. For cats less than 6 months old, under 2.2 lb (1 kg), or pregnant or nursing, turn off auto clean and use Luma's cleaning button instead. Small, senior, or mobility-impaired cats might prefer to use the included step for easier entry and exit.

How often do I need to empty Luma's waste drawer?

Luma's 11-liter waste drawer can hold up to 7 days of waste for 2 cats, making it perfect for short trips or busy weeks.

How does Luma help me spot important
changes in my cat's litter box use?

Luma creates a profile for each cat (up to 10), tracking their litter habits, weight, and waste. The app alerts you to anything unusual—like loose poop or no activity in 24 hours—and lets you review videos and photos to better understand your cat's behavior.

Does I need to use a specific type of cat litter with Luma?

Luma works with most clumping cat litters and includes two litter filters. Use the round-holed filter for small-grained clumping litter, and the long-pellet filter for tofu or mixed litters.
Luma is not compatible with non-clumping litters, such as pine or crystal litters, or with very fine particles, such as grass seed or cassava litter.

Where should I place Luma in my home?

Place Luma indoors, out of direct sunlight, on a hard, flat surface with at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space around it. Keep it away from carpets, cables, and tight corners where a cat could get stuck. Avoid curtains and other moving objects that could interfere with its sensors.

How does Luma keep odors under control?

A built-in fan circulates air through an activated carbon deodorizer, trapping odors so the air around your Luma stays fresh and clean. You can choose from 2 fan speeds in the app.

Can Luma connect with other smart products?

Yes. You can control all Petlibro smart devices through the Petlibro app. A single Petlibro Care subscription currently summarizes your pet’s drinking and feeding data across devices—and soon will also include litter box usage from multiple Lumas.
With a Video Cloud AI Premium Family plan, you can connect AI video data from up to three devices (Luma or Scout Smart Camera supported), giving you a more holistic view of your pets’ activities.

Can Luma prevent high-peeing cats from leaking?

Luma was made to stop leaks. The integrated design of the litter basket and base eliminates gaps, and the litter mat's outer sealing ring uses a hard plastic and silicone overmolding process to leak-proof all seams. Together, these features ensure that absolutely no urine leaks through to your floor.

How can I reduce litter tracking when my cat exits Luma?

We recommend using a litter-trapping mat with Luma to catch scattered litter and make cleanup easier. We’ve designed a mat specifically for Luma.

How do I get customer support for Luma if I have an issue?

Will Luma's AI still work if my Wi-Fi goes down?

Yes. Core features—such as pet recognition, toilet use detection, and automatic cleaning—will continue to operate without Wi-Fi. Features that require cloud connectivity, like video recording, waste type identification, and photo capture, will resume once your connection is restored.

Can I use my HSA/FSA for this product?

You may be able to use your HSA/FSA funds depending on your plan and eligibility. At checkout, select Flex to see if you qualify. Some purchases may require a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), which Flex helps facilitate through a licensed provider. If approved, a non-refundable $5 LMN fee will be added at checkout.

What if I’m not able to use HSA/FSA at checkout?
